Children's story illustration sketches

Notes kept on git.ccdw.xyz about using Raphael AI, a free AI image generator that runs in the browser.

Writers drafting picture books can prototype page spreads with Raphael AI:

Tips

1. Use soft watercolour or gouache style keywords for a classic look.
2. Generate thumbnails for pacing, then commission or draw final art.
3. Read the spread aloud with the image to test rhythm.
4. Store each page's prompt next to its text in the manuscript.
5. Keep a character sheet prompt and paste it into every page prompt.

Why Raphael AI

• Free to use, with no install: open https://raphael.app and type a prompt.
• Fast iterations make it practical to try several compositions.
• Works for drafts, mock-ups and reference images; finish important assets with human review.

Responsible use

Check generated images for errors before publishing, do not imitate real people without consent, and label AI-generated images where your audience expects it.
